And good as the Cadenza is, you'd be wise to look at some of its hard-hitting rivals before making a decision. The Chrysler 300 and Toyota Avalon similarly offer effortless performance, smooth rides and roomy, well-trimmed cabins. The 300 offers the option of potent V8 power, while the Avalon also comes as a hybrid. You might also consider the Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet Impala and Volkswagen Passat, which also offer a variety of engine options, even a thrifty turbodiesel in the VW's case. Overall, though, the 2015 Kia Cadenza, which earned an "B" rating, stands as an excellent choice for a large sedan.

Standard features on the Premium include 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, foglights, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding sideview mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, 10-way power driver seat, eight-way power passenger seat, heated front seats and a ventilated driver seat. Standard high-tech features include a rearview camera, rear park assist, an 8-inch touchscreen display, Kia's Uvo voice command system, a navigation system, Bluetooth phone and audio and a 12-speaker Infinity sound system with a CD player, satellite radio and USB/iPod/auxiliary audio inputs.

Optional on the Premium is the Luxury package, which includes active xenon headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a windshield wiper de-icer, a 7-inch gauge cluster display, upgraded leather upholstery, a heated and power-adjustable steering wheel, heated rear seats, driver memory settings, a power driver seat cushion extender and a power rear window sunshade. There's also the Technology package, which includes 19-inch wheels, water-repellent front windows, adaptive cruise control, an electronic parking brake and a suite of driver warning systems (blind spot, rear cross-traffic, lane departure). The panoramic sunroof is available as a stand-alone option.

The Limited trim includes all the above as well as upgraded exterior trim, a surround-view camera system, driver-adjustable steering effort (Flex Steer), additional wood-grain interior trim, a simulated suede headliner, rear parcel shelf and sun visors, LED lighting, an analog clock and a fold-down rear armrest with a USB port. The Limited also offers a trio of color-themed packages at no added cost. The White Interior package features white leather upholstery, while the Black and Gray Interior packages are similarly executed with their respective colors.

Every Cadenza is fitted with a 3.3-liter V6 engine generating 293 hp and 255 pound-feet of torque. It sends its thrust to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. In testing, the Cadenza accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, an average time for this segment.

EPA-estimated fuel economy numbers for the 2015 Cadenza stand at 22 mpg combined (19 city/28 highway).

Standard safety features on the 2015 Kia Cadenza include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front and rear side airbags, side curtain airbags and hill start assist. A rearview camera and rear parking sensors are standard on the Premium, while blind-spot, rear cross-traffic and lane departure warning systems are optional. All of this is standard on the Limited, which also gets a more deluxe surround-view camera system.

During testing, the Cadenza came to a stop from 60 mph in 122 feet, an average performance for this class.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Cadenza its highest possible rating of "Good" in its moderate-overlap frontal offset, side-impact and roof-strength tests. The Cadenza's seat/head restraint design was also rated "Good" for whiplash protection in rear impacts.

Though it's a large sedan, the 2015 Kia Cadenza isn't the floaty, luxury barge you might expect. It's composed when driven around turns, and in general, this full-size Kia just feels smaller than it is. When you're driving in town, the Cadenza's somewhat firm suspension tuning ably absorbs broken pavement. On the open road, interstate cruises are serene and relaxing thanks to the quiet cabin and comfortable seating.

Performance is similarly unstressed, as the Cadenza swiftly powers up on-ramps and passes slower cars with ease. Power delivery is very smooth, and the automatic transmission provides timely shifts.

Buyers of large front-wheel-drive sedans like the 2015 Kia Cadenza are generally looking for a comfortable and roomy car to pamper them on their daily errands, with sporty driving a secondary consideration. In that perspective, the Cadenza nails it. Not quite as sporty as it looks, the Cadenza still offers a sporty-enough ride, but one that definitely skews toward comfort. The Cadenza is related to its corporate cousin, the Hyundai Azera, and shares that car's engine and basic underpinnings, which made us all the more surprised by its better driving characteristics, including steering feel. We were also impressed by the seamless powertrain and cabin that remained notably quiet on the highway. Rough pavement can belie the sense of sophistication the rest of the car works hard to convey, but overall, the Cadenza drives about the same as any of today's good large sedans.

ADVANCED SMART CRUISE CONTROL Cruise control systems that monitor traffic are quickly becoming one of our favorite modern features. The 2015 Cadenza offers one of the better systems, able to bring the vehicle to a full stop in sync with the car ahead, and automatically resume if the stop was two seconds or less.NAPPA LEATHER INTERIORLeather trim can feel like rubber, but the Nappa leather available in the Cadenza is the soft-supple surface you expect. It's available on the Kia Cadenza Limited with the White, Gray, or Black Leather interior package, or on Premium models with the Luxury package with beige or black leather.

The 2015 Kia Cadenza gets an interior upgrade with new wood trim and metal accents, a new analog clock, and LED map and reading lights. Otherwise, things carry over from last year. We like the stylishly straightforward dash, and credit it with a big part of the car's sporty persona. The front seats are comfortable, though not quite best-in-class, and the rear seat is as roomy as you expect from a large sedan. The trunk is large enough to swallow an entire foursome's golf bags. Beyond all that, we really appreciated the Cadenza's overall sense of quality and refinement.

The 2015 Kia Cadenza isn't going to grab your eyes the first time you see it. However, its handsome lines and satisfying proportions grow on you over time, in a good way. The fact that it bears a strong family resemblance to the new Kia K900 luxury sedan certainly helps impart an upscale air. This year, Limited models are distinguished by a new grille design and fender garnish.

Given Kia's reputation for offering feature-dense cars, it's not surprising the basic $ 35,700 Cadenza Premium offers a lot for the money. There's keyless entry and push-button start, leather seating, an 8-inch central display, navigation, a 550-watt/12-speaker Infinity audio system with AM/FM/CD/MP3/Satellite radio, plus USB, Bluetooth and auxiliary audio connectivity. The standard UVO eServices includes the ability to automatically call 911 if airbag deploys, and to send a navigation destination from your computer to the car. Newly standard this year is an 8-way power driver's seat, and rear-seat passengers get a center armrest with cup holders and a USB charging port.

The Cadenza Premium option packages include the Technology and Luxury packages. The Technology package includes driving aids like active cruise with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot and cross-traffic warnings. It also adds water-repelling hydrophobic glass. A Luxury package adds in ventilated driver's and front-passenger seats, power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and a 7-inch TFT display in the gauges. A panoramic roof is also available, either as a standalone option or as part of the Luxury package. Premium models also get Nappa leather if they order beige or black leather with the Luxury package. Not surprisingly, Limited models come fully loaded.

Kia sounds surprisingly playful for a car manufacturer's name and as the brand's tag line reads, they really are all about the power to surprise. In fact, the Korean car builder has done so from its very inception in 1944 when it began as a steel tubing and bicycle parts producer. Six years later, Kia would reveal Korea's first bike.

Once the first step was made, Kia rushed through the process of developing light means of transport, such as scooters and fast forwarded through motorcycle building upon the point of reaching the necessary resources and experience to start building cars. The whole conversion process took Kia about two and a half decades to complete.

Bigger, richer and propelled by the enthrallment of having their own car brand, Kia poured a considerable amount of cash into a plant to accommodate its assembly lines.  By 1973, the new facility at Sohari saw completion, becoming Korea's first of its kind. Fully integrated and equipped with the latest cutting, bolting and welding machinery, the plant ulteriorly became the womb in which Kore's first internal-combustion gasoline engine would develop. The first Kia built car was unveiled one year later, a medium passenger car named Brisa.

Kia's sounding debut and modern technology caught the eye of different foreign producers(e.g. Peugeot and Fiat) with whom it partnered to house production of some of their models such as Peugeot's 604 and Fiat's 132.

By the 80's Kia had expanded to almost the size of its main competitor, Hyundai who was still the no. 1 Korean producer. Some of Kia's newer models at the time were rebadged and marketed abroad such as the Pride which sold overseas as the Ford Festiva. Only a few years later, Ford would manifest interest in the Avella, a subcompact car available in a 5-door hatchback version and a 4-dour sedan powered by either a 1.3 or a 1.5 liter engine. The Avella was rebadged as the Ford Aspire on the North American market.

The Korean manufacturer had not yet reached US shores on its own but it was only a few strokes away. In 1992, the brand was incorporated into the US and timidly started business through a tiny four-dealership network that sold its first vehicles in 1994. Ever since, Kia has been methodically expanding, reaching every state except north Dakota.

The main selling point of Kia cars was its affordability which was later supplemented by Kia's expansion into other market segments through the introduction of their first sport utility vehicle in 1995, the Sportage. From that point on, Kia suffered a fate very similar to that of Hyundai, company it would  later blend into due to unsuccessful management of financial difficulties.

Trouble began in the late '90 when the company became stagnant and thus unable to rollout new models. That's when Hyundai came into play. The major Korean car-builder got rid of  competition by means of merger. Both companies have experienced trouble and low sales due to reliability complaints over their vehicles.

The somewhat bland styling was not exactly what buyers were looking for in a car either so both had to undergo costly restructuring stages. Kia found itself rejuvenated by 2001 when, following its owner's example, it started working on a new vehicle line-up with an emphasis on quality and long-warranty offerings. Ever since, Kia has been steadily conquering segments of the European market, especially through the Cee'd, Sorento and Rio models. The development of newer, bolder designs is also among Kia's priorities, predating a future line-up with the announcement of concepts such as the Soul, unveiled at the Montreal auto show in 2006 and the Kee, a fresh coupe boasting strongly appealing style elements.

Is it really a KIA?

I test drove the Cadillac CTS, the Lexus ES 350 and the Cadenza. Absolutely love my Cadenza. I've owned many new higher end GM and Toyota cars but have never enjoyed driving one as much as my Cadenza. Apparently I'm not alone with my feelings as I am seeing more and more KIAs on the road. It is now 9 months later and I still love my Cadenza. My only additional comment about my Cadenza is that with the 19 wheels and a somewhat taut suspension, I feel that 18 inch wheels or higher profile tires would have been a better choice for more comfortable driving over some of the New England roads that are in disrepair.

No comparison!

I love cars. I love cars that are considered underdogs. I love cars that you don't see everyone driving. I love knowing that I have made a great deal and my car is worth every penny I spent. The cadenza is just that. An underdog that is better than its competition. No comparison. The impala, 300, Taurus etc. I owned two of the three competitors. Not that they are bad cars or alternatives. They just are not the best. I drove the Toyota Avalon, bmw, Acura, and Lexus. For the price range the cadenza blows them away. Not to mention the styling and standard features! Kia comes with the 5 year warranty and 10 year powertrain and a specific premium service for it cadenza owners. I love that there isn't one every time I turn the corner. As a matter of fact KIA should be paying me to advertise. Lol. Every where I go people are always wondering what the car is and when I tell them a KiA they are instantly intrigued and ask me questions. its a beautiful car, quiet, handling, safety, and standard luxury features. Kia is in the rise and its quality is great. No recalls. No repairs. No issues!! I haughty recommend. They have hit this one out of the park. From what I hear from other Kia owners, it is the norm to have high quality and no recalls. They have made it into the luxury market and are moving forward quickly. I hear the K900 is also beautiful and hard to compete with, you won't be disappointed. Give Kia a try. You'll be impressed to say the least. Trust me.

I traded my BMW for the all new 2015 Kia Cadenza. I did not make a mistake. This is car continues to impress me and my friends. Roomy, quite, smooth ride, and lots of luxury amenities that comes standard at half the price of BMW and Mercedes. Kia has step up to the plate with this car.

Saved our lives!

I loved my car & it saved my daughter and myself lives when we were Tboned at 60mph- we had minor injuries the curtain side airbags protected my daughter the car held up to such a hard impact I'm impressed- I will be replacing it with a 2016 Cadenza- so grateful for all its safety features and I will miss my black on black- great car!! And worth every dollar

2014 Kia Cadenza

"A wonderful car in every respect!"

With 47,000 miles on the odometer, this car has been terrific. In addition to the routine stuff, i.e. oil changes, new tires @ 36K miles, new battery @ 4 years, I've spent a grand total of $ 1.79 on it (for a new battery for the key fob!). I drive it mostly around town, and it's comfortable and capable in any weather. On the highway, it's a dream to drive on Idaho's 80mph interstates. The heated steering wheel and seats are a relief in the winter, the air-conditioned seats are ditto in the summer. Yes, it has had rapid depreciation, likely due to the Kia name more than anything. I expect to enjoy this car for many years to come.

"Good highway traveler. Powerful."

Best on highway. A bit clumsy in city driving. Auto transmission not as agile as competitors. Hesitates upon acceleration but good once it kicks in. Comfortable car.

I never thought I would own a Kia, but the Cadenza is an awesome car. I love it!! its is fun to drive, gets great gas mileage and it looks and rides like a Mercedes or Cadillac, my opinion anyways. Love this car!!
